Frequently Asked Questions

Which years do you tutor?

We tutor Key Stage 3 & 4 students (Years 7 - 11)

Which subjects do you tutor?

We currently tutor English, Maths and Science because the primary subjects will allow students to progress in other school subjects through the transferable skills we endeavour to provide and facilitate.

Can I book one-off tutoring sessions?

Our tutoring is a monthly service with a fixed timetable; therefore, we do not currently offer one-off tutoring sessions.

Which days will the tutoring take place?

Our lessons are on Saturdays.

What are the timings of the lessons?

Lessons start at 9am and end at 12:30pm. There are three one-hour lessons with 15-minute breaks between each subject. We recommend students to log in at 8:50 am for registration and a prompt start to the first lesson.

How many students are there in each class?

We want to simulate a classroom experience whilst also giving each and every student enough time for individual support. Therefore, each class will accommodate a maximum of 10 students.

Do I need any equipment or software?

All you need is an electronic device (laptop, computer or tablet) with a mic and a stable internet connection. You will also need to download Zoom. You can register and download Zoom from here - https://zoom.us/

Are all the lessons taught via Zoom?

Yes, all lessons are taught via Zoom. Students are expected to keep their mics on so that communication between the tutors and students is clear. We will also provide you with a guide to download Zoom and join classes.

Do you use Google Classroom?

Yes, in addition to Zoom we also use Google Classroom, which is a place for tutors to post assignments and students to ask any questions they have about their studies. We will also provide you with a guide on joining classes in Google Classroom.

Will the tutors be able to build a positive online environment with the students?

Online tutoring has recently proven to be a safe and convenient method to assist students in their studies. We understand parents may be hesitant about the effectiveness of online learning, however our tutors are trained and experienced in teaching online in an engaging and effective manner, whereby each students progress and participation will be individually monitored.

My child has never studied online before, how will you make the experience similar to on-site?

Our lessons are taught with other students in the class and tutors will have their cameras on in order to facilitate a comfortable and similar experience as that of a physical classroom. Our tutors also have years of experience in tutoring so they have their own style and method to make the classes interactive and fun.

Do students receive homework?

Yes, students may receive homework from their subject tutors.

If my child misses a lesson, will there be another lesson to make it up?

As our lessons are taught with a group of students, we are unable to make up any lessons that are missed by a student. However, the tutors will endeavour to provide a sufficient amount of catch-up homework and a summary of a missed lesson so that no student is left behind.

Are the classes recorded?

Unfortunately, for the privacy and comfort of both students and tutors, the classes will not be recorded.

Are students allowed to record the lessons?

Students are not permitted to record lessons via electronic devices without the permission of the tutor.

Can parents sit in the classes with their child?

Parents may choose to remain in the company of their child while he/she is taking online lessons with us. However, just as a student is not accompanied by their parents in a physical school classroom, we do not expect the parents to sit with their child during their classes. This is for the comfort and effective learning of the student so that they are able to participate just as they would in a physical classroom.

A responsible adult must be present at the students premises at all times.

What are the qualifications of your tutors?

All our tutors have a 1st Class Degree as a minimum, with some also having a Masters Degree. Additionally, all our tutors have years of experience in tutoring.

Are all subjects taught by one tutor?

No, every subject has its own tutor who specialises in that field.
